morzine - Avoriaz

Morzine and Avoriaz are situated mid-way between Mont Blanc and Lake Geneva in the heart of the Portes du Soleil, one of the most extensive ski regions in the Alps.  Morzine's picturesque village has a lovely charm, plenty of character and Savoyard way of life.   It has excellent skiing right on its doorstep with links to neighbouring Les Gets and the whole of the Portes du Soleil.  Up the road you'll find Avoriaz which is actually set high above Morzine at 1800m, a stunning mountain top location with a completely car free centre.  You can actually ski through a lot of Avoriaz town, and with the peaceful car free centre, Avoriaz is a somewhat unique resort.

Skiing and Snowboarding in Morzine & Avoriaz

The Portes du Soleil is the world's largest skiing area and covers a vast 650km area of France and Switzerland making skiing in Morzine & Avoriaz a fantastic choice for skiers of all levels.

Beginners:  The village nursery slopes are convenient for beginners, with plenty of progression runs over towards Avoriaz, Nyon and the trip via Pleney to Les Gets.

Intermediates:  There is lots of choice with a number of great pistes on the Pleney side and also over towards Les Gets. As an intermediate you can ski most of Morzine/Avoriaz.

Advanced:  For advanced skiers, there are many good off piste runs to be found over the whole area, and the black runs from Pointe de Nyon and Chamossiere are fantastic for the more advanced skier.

Boarders:  If you are a park lover, there is a great park in Avoriaz that is pretty big, with progression jumps, rails and even a BIG AIR to learn how to do the more advanced jumps. For those who are still learning there is a smaller park in Mont Chery which might be more appealing.

Apres Ski

Both Morzine and Avoriaz have plenty of good bars, cosy cafes and local restaurants to suit all tastes and budgets. In Morzine you can choose between lively bars like Le Crepu, more chilled out bars like the Buddha bar or one of the many sports bars with big screens such as the Dixie Bar or the Cavern.  Avoriaz has a number of apres ski bars, including The Place and Wild Horse Saloon both good for some live music.  For a bit of nightclubbing try Le Yak, or if bowling takes your fancy Studio 9 bowling alley is open until 2am and even has pool and video games as well.  If you prefer to party in one of the other Portes de Soleil resorts, many ski down at the end of the day, check out the nightlife and then get a late night taxi back up to Avoriaz.
